A CISO's Perspective:
How are you Preparing for the Future given the Current Cybersecurity Threat Landscape?

We recently hosted a panel discussion led by veteran CISOs to talk about real-world experiences and their unique insights on the cybersecurity challenges their organizations face.

Robert Grillo, Vice President and Chief Information Officer for FIU’s Information Technology and panel moderator, asked Lars Schmekel, CISO for Miami Dade County, Dr. Mauricio Angee, CISO for University of Miami Health System, and William Mendez, CISO for City of Miami, how they are all preparing for the future given the current cybersecurity threat landscape.

Watch this short video to listen to their answers.

Video Transcript:

Lars Schmekel, CISO for Miami Dade County: "Information Security is a 24/7 endeavor and I don't have enough staff to keep an eye on systems 24/7; so we have to rely on some type of a managed service provider, or managed SOC, to assist the county in handling that overnight hour, and giving us the visibility that we need. We're looking at automation and  orchestration as well because the pace of which an infection can crawl through your network, the only way to respond to something is through automation and  orchestration. And on average, organizations that are hit by ransomware are offline for over 23 days.

William Mendez, CISO for City of Miami: "I think insurance is definitely a thing that has to be in the mix. I think having also a partner for Incident Response is a must. And then, prepare for it; because eventually it will happen.

Dr. Mauricio Angee, CISO for University of Miami Health System: "Don't forget the users, please; Education, and a lot of awareness is important."
