DigitalEra Group is pleased to announce that William Mendez, our Chief Information Services Officer, will speak at Cybersecurity Awareness Month 2026, the virtual series organized by the Ministry of Public Administration and Artificial Intelligence of Trinidad and Tobago.

His session, Using and Adopting AI Safely at Work: Trust, Delegation, and Human Accountability, takes place on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at 1:00 PM AST.

Why this topic matters now

In most of the organizations we work with, employees already use AI tools to draft documents, summarize meetings and analyze data. Policy often follows later. Leaders are left with practical questions about how to adopt AI in a way their staff, and the public they serve, can trust.

Three ideas at the center of the session

  • Trust asks how much confidence an organization places in AI output, and what evidence supports that confidence.

  • Delegation asks which tasks can be handed to AI, which need a reviewer, and which remain with people.

  • Human accountability means a named person answers for every decision, whatever tool helped make it.

A speaker with public-sector depth

William brings 30 years of public-sector cybersecurity leadership. From 2021 to 2023 he served as Chief Information Security Officer for the City of Miami, where he built the city’s information security governance structure and steering committee. Before that, he spent 22 years as an Information Systems Security Officer, leading cybersecurity operations, technology selection and secure software development practices.

That background shapes his view of AI adoption as a governance question first. Who approves a tool, who reviews its output and who answers for the result are decisions an institution makes on purpose.

A ministry-led initiative worth supporting

Cybersecurity Awareness Month 2026 brings cybersecurity professionals from government agencies and private-sector organizations into one series of virtual sessions, from October 19 to 30.

We thank the Ministry for the invitation to contribute to a regional conversation it leads.

Our Secure AI Adoption practice works on the same questions with our clients: where AI is already in use, who is accountable for it, and which controls fit.
